Employment History:

GrayCam Productions Inc. - April, 1999 to Present:

In April, 1999 I started a video production company called GrayCam Productions Inc. I freelance as a cameraman and/or producer. I have a Sony DXC-D30WS camera with a Betacam SP recorder and related equipment.

During 2002 Daryl was DOP for "Record Man: The Life and Times of Sam Sniderman" (West Street Pictures/CBC), "Flying On The Moon: The Ludmilla Story" for 'Opening Night' (Dreamsmith Entertainment/CBC), Daryl was also Producer/Cameraman for one of the stories in "Landed", a four-part series for CBC's 50th anniversary prgramming.

During 2000 I was Director of Photography for the "World’s Greatest Spas" series for WTN/Discovery. We shot 26 shows around the world including India, Egypt, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Europe and North America. In 1999 I shot for the Discovery Channel program "Oceans of Mystery" in Haiti, Jamaica, Barbados and Malta. I was also DOP for a History Television 2 hour documentary called "Stories From Pier 21" produced by Topsail Entertainment in Halifax. I have also shot for CTV Sportsnet, Hockey Night in Canada, Environics Communications, Editcom Ltd., The Life Channel, The Food Channel (US), The Travel Channel (US) and CBC’s Life and Times.

Since August, 1999 I have also been training for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. This includes co-instructing the Visual Storytelling course at ‘On Course’ at Port Elgin, Ontario and Toronto, working as show producer for superhour news programs, training videojournalists and giving lighting courses. I wrote a training manual for CBC called "Storytelling With The Camcorder" published in the summer of 2001. In the fall of 2001 I trained for the Canadian Federal Government and also at TV3 in Cambodia. In 2002, Daryl taught journalists at independent television in Bosnia. Daryl is a member of the Journalism faculty of St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

May, 1988 to April, 1999: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Halifax

From December, 1996 I was a cameraman/producer with the supperhour news program 1st Edition. I worked on documentaries with various reporters. My duties were to research, produce, shoot and edit documentaries. I have also co-produced, shot and edited several co-productions with network programs. I have edited recent documentaries on an Avid Media Composer 8000 non-linear editing system.

Items include:

From 1991 to 1996 I worked primarily as a cameraman for local, regional and national programs.

This included shooting for:

During that time I was occassionally upgraded to producer to shoot and produce co-productions such as:

From 1989 to 1991 I was a full-time producer/director and worked on projects including:

April, 1986 to May, 1988 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Toronto

Cameraman: The Journal

I shot documentaries for "The Journal". Probably one of the most challenging jobs for a cameraman at that time; it was one of the highlights of my career. Documentaries included:

September, 1981 to March, 1986 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Halifax

Cameraman/Editor

From March, 1983 to April, 1986 I was the cameraman/editor for "The National" covering the three maritime provinces. In addition to maritime stories I shot and edited stories in England, Europe, the United States, the high Arctic and across Canada.

From 1981 to 1983 I worked as an editor for local and regional television shows... both 2" production and ENG.

October, 1980 to September, 1981 - CITY-TV, Toronto

CITY-TV's self-proclaimed mandate to ‘cover Toronto' meant that in addition to shooting political and investigative items I chased a lot of fire and police vehicles. The ‘rock and roll' approach to news was a 180 degree change from my CBC experience and was valuable in developing a 'hand-held' ‘anything goes' style that so many programs have adopted.

October, 1976 to September, 1980 - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Charlottetown

I worked in Charlottetown as a studio cameraman, ENG cameraman/editor and studio and remote radio technician.

March, 1976 to September, 1976 - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Sydney, N.S.

My first job at CBC was as a radio tech in both CCR and the studio.

February, 1974 to March, 1975 - CHFX-FM, Halifax, N.S.

While attending university I worked part-time as a DJ at this radio station.
